The Three Stages of Expressing the Truth
Vernon Howard
Printer-Friendly Format

Stage One -- When you first encounter Truth, you feel you will be able to express and explain it to other people or to yourself very easily and glibly, as if you were the greatest orator in the world.

Stage Two -- Then, as you continue to turn on the Light inwardly, you see how difficult it is to express Higher Truth with lower forms of expression. The Truth has to come down and pass through your jumbled mind, your sputtering words and through the English language. You see how difficult it is to explain the Higher by means of the lower.

Your first realization of that is a bit discouraging -- wrongly -- for you say, "How can I with my natural brilliance express all these things if I have limitation in me?" You're always thinking about yourself and how you're going to dazzle the world with your oratory.

Stage Three -- Then there comes a third stage when you do realize quite fully the limitation of thought, language, gestures, the limitations of the physical self and all it houses. It can only go so far in expressing the Truth. When you realize this, you realize that you can go even further in developing the powers of your mind, feeling and speech. You can go much further in developing efficiency in expressing the Truth.

You want to be as clear as possible in expressing it to yourself and others. You now realize that at first you were in vanity, thinking you already had it.

Seeing how limited you are makes you see how you can go far beyond the limitations you set on yourself. You thought you had gone as far as you could go.

Now you are taking your gestures, your thoughts, your mannerisms, your mind and memory and asking God to use your speech, mind, memory to make you the best speaker possible. You will find an increase in the quality of being able to convey Higher Truths to yourself and others.

At all times ask God to guide you in this clearer expression to yourself and other people. The two will go alongside each other. The first and foremost attitude is toward the right attitude in developing yourself at all levels -- the mental level, the speech level and above all, the level of the Light itself.

The light will shine on your speech, on your mind, on your memory, on your emotions to make them of maximum capacity and efficiency in explaining the Truth to yourself and to anyone who might want it.
