Writing for Publication: Passing Along a Cool
Drink of Water from the Oasis
Tom Russell

Keeping a notebook and/or journal is amazingly beneficial. It is the first and foremost dimension of writing. It is your garden. The ideas you read or hear that strike your emotions with special clarity, and the insights you experience, they yearn to be planted!

The second dimension is writing for publication. You, publish an article or book? Why not? What you will have to BE to complete a quality project is the most valuable part of it all. So what if it takes months, or even a few years.

There is another reward also: Writers and speakers have discovered that passing on a glass of water to someone else quenches their thirst as well. The same discovery holds true for musicians and artists and really good teachers! Any act of mature thinking and conduct benefits both yourself and others. (Worthwhile movie tip: The Emperor's Club)

A communicator of higher ideas must find the Center, the inner place that is all his or her own. Though quotations can add color to your writing or speaking, first and foremost tell us what YOU know! What have YOU discovered through your own application of higher ideas? What obstacles did you have to meet and overcome, and what did you learn? Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The universal does not attract us until housed in an individual."

"All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own." (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) Transformational writing and speaking flow from a place where no one else can go, and that is from YOUR own Heart. Find this place and your words will be a catalyst for others to find their Heart.

Where to begin? One good place is with a Blog. When you post your writing it is searchable by the search engines -- Google for example. A good one is at http://www.typepad.com

Another great way is by writing articles. The internet craves them. Keep your articles under a 1000 words for best results. Write with brevity, perhaps using 7 ways to do this, or 9 ways to do that as a format. Your article can be circulated widely using a delivery service like the one at: http://www.submityourarticle.com

Have fun! You are out on the field PLAYING the game. Look to your own flowering Heart for encouragement, and there's tons of it! Looking for encouragement from those on the bleachers "watching" the game is a huge trap. They want you back.
