Vernon Howard Lesson: Truth is Compassionate to All
Quoted from: Secrets for Higher Success Because the truth is gentle and kindly, it also shocks. It has
no motive in shocking except to awaken suffering humanity.
Falsehood fears to shock, for its selfish interests require
sleeping people to remain asleep, therefore falsehood is
ruthless and cruel. Knowing its own innocence, truth can say,
"Sacrifice to others in hope of securing their support for
your shakey self-structure can only bring heartache. That
wonderful person you idolize is just as lost as you are. Do
not call evil good. Let that begin your self-rescue."
 At the moment of condemnation,
you are not the same person who may have behaved unwisely one
second or fifty years ago.

You must not condemn yourself for anything, which does not
mean to abandon self-responsibility. Condemnation prevents
understanding. Try to see why. At the moment of condemnation,
you are not the same person who may have behaved unwisely one
second or fifty years ago. You are new every second, but
mistakenly think you possess a fixed personality. So when you
condemn, you condemn a mere memory about yourself, which isIn the Bible the word "metanoia" is interpreted as
repentance, which is from Latin and means "to feel sorry." But
in the original Greek, the meaning of the word "meta" means to
go beyond, or rise above. "Noia" means "change of mind."
Hence, in the original Greek text the Bible is pointing to a
change of being, a change of mind and a transcendence to a
higher order of life and intelligence. pointless. By living with your moment-by-moment newness, you
banish the tyranny of a memorized self. Your understanding of
this makes you blameless, for it breaks the mechanical
repetition of unwise behavior, and replaces it with conscious
goodness.
HIGHER GLIMPSE:
1.
Our level of thinking is raised by contact with a higher order
of ideas. This is the purpose of all authentic spiritual
teachings. However, the words in the books and lectures are
not an end in themselves; they serve a temporary purpose. Their
aim is to lift our thinking to a level where we can begin to
receive direct inspiration from the original Source of all
inspiration. (Tom Russell)
2. When you live with uncertainty without trying to replace
it with certainty, everything false and painful vanishes and
you merge with Life. Then Certainty (with a capital "C")
comes to you and saturates you. You then have no uncertainty
over your purpose, for you now have, and are, the purpose of
Life itself. (Tom's Vernon Howard Class Notebooks)
RELATIONSHIPS:
1. It is one thing to meditate in the heart of a wood or alone
in one's room, but experience shows that it is quite another
thing to maintain this state of tranquil alertness in the
company of one's fellow beings, and it is this that the
teachers of the Fourth Way demand of its followers. Those who
pursue this path are not monks or anchorites who have turned
their backs on the world, but are quite ordinary men and women
who are using in a special way the raw material of life. It is
not under the Bodhi tree but in the mirror of our
relationships with people, animals, property and ideas, that
we ordinary people are best able to catch sight of ourselves
most clearly. (Dr. Kenneth Walker)
2. A) For right human relations, be in social contact with
others, but not in wrong psychological involvement with them .
. . Become your own healthy atmosphere, for then a noisy
office is your own quiet home. (Vernon Howard)
PERSISTENCE:
1. Continue in spite of all and you will be wealthy in a way
that this world cannot imagine, and you will be wealthy
forever. Just tell the Truth to yourself regardless of
everything and you will come out all right. (Tom's VH Class Notebooks)
2. Whatever you do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness
has genius, power, and magic in it. (Johann von Goethe)
SUCCESSFUL SPIRITUAL STUDY
1. A key attribute of real spirituality is it flexibility.
Though its core principles are as grounded and sure as a
mountain, its means of expression adapt with time, peoples and
culture. (Tom Russell)
2. People take 'ideas' which were intended to be 'prescribed'
for specific situations and groups to enable them to learn.
These they imagine are 'laws' or perennial truths. The result
is a mechanical system which is next to useless. (Idries
Shah)
3. Once he joins an organization of this kind his capacity to
think and judge for himself will be slowly and insidiously
destroyed, for he will be expected to imitate the thinking and
judgment of the mass of other members. (Dr. Paul Brunton)
CHALLENGE:
1. There has to come a critical point in your spiritual
development where you see that there is no use at all
continuing in the same old circle. It is useless. You see
that it never leads you anywhere. So you come to a stop.
This is a new place, a new feeling, a new understanding!
(VH Class Notebooks)
As long as the mind thinks in terms of changing through
time, of bringing about a revolution in the future, there is
no transformation in the present.

VERNON HOWARD LESSON
From: The Power of Your Supermind
Question: How do terms like faith and belief connect with
Supermind teachings?
Answer: The only valid belief is one which you prove
personally by a loftier life. But when this happens, the
words no longer have meaning. Words are labels, and you
cannot describe an inner certainty; you just taste it. How
would you describe to someone the taste of a peach?
Question: You once said that the Supermind can correct past
mistakes. How is it possible to change history?
Answer: Self-history is what the mind makes it. You can
change your mind and so change your concept of yourself.
Don't give the mere memory of a past mistake power over you.
It has none. You can remember the actual incident, but don't
think it has anything to do with you today. You are a new
person every single moment.
